My Services

Therapy should fit into your schedule

  • In-Person - At school, park, or your home

If you are in the Boulder area and want to come to my office, you are more than welcome! I have games, tools, and toys that will help your child be comfortable in the space.

  • Online (Telepractice)

If your child is more comfortable at home or if you live outside of the area, online speech therapy is a valuable tool and I can help your child virtually. I do encourage parents and siblings to get involved in online therapy.

  • Hybrid In-person & Online

Consistency is key! If it’s helpful to meet in person one week and virtually the next week - that’s ok with me! My goal is to help your child in whatever way works for them and for your family.

What are the benefits of online sessions?

  • More parent and/or sibling involvement and coaching to support speech-language development and play

  • Access to the child’s toys and natural environment, which allows the therapist to observe more common behaviors

  • Opportunity for shorter, more frequent sessions, (such as 15 minute sessions 2-3x weekly)

  • Frequent sessions are particularly helpful for working on articulation disorders as they allow for quick practice of the targeted sound (e.g., saying /r/ correctly) which is shown to accelerate speech sound acquisition

  • Online (telepractice) sessions are more time-efficient for busy families

  • There are fewer transitions

  • No commuting/travel time to and from sessions

  • Sessions start on time more frequently without traffic and other delays

  • Fewer missed sessions due to bad weather, trips within Colorado, or illness or scheduling conflicts

  • Children are usually more relaxed and comfortable working in their own home

What are the drawbacks of online sessions?

  • Children can move/walk away from the computer and get distracted by things happening at home.

  • Depending on the age and needs, a child may need guidance and/or supervision from a caregiver that the speech therapist can't provide remotely, such as redirecting back to the computer or getting certain supplies.

  • Although they are infrequent, there can be internet connection issues (this is easily solved by reconnecting on the telepractice platform or rebooting the computer).

What goes into a speech evaluation?

I offer a variety of speech and language evaluations:

·   The best evaluation for your child will be determined by a brief (10-15 minute) phone consultation and review of paperwork regarding your child’s speech, language, hearing, and general medical history, as well as any other areas of concern.)

·   Evaluation time will range from 45 – 90 minutes based on the type of evaluation and include formal assessment as well as play, conversation, and a language sample.

What can I hope to get in return as a parent?

A comprehensive understanding of your child’s speech and/or language skills, including their strengths, specific information to help you understand your child’s speech and language needs, and recommendations including next steps to best support and develop areas of concern (e.g., therapy goals and quick home practice strategies). You will also receive a written report of evaluation results which will include these details and recommendations as well as a 15-minute phone consultation to discuss the report and next steps.

What Services I Provide

  • Evaluations Assessment & Identification

Determining current speech and language skills relevant to the child’s age. This can include classroom observations or video review of peer interactions & play, daily routines (i.e., mealtime), parent and/or teacher interview, standardized testing, language samples, and differentiating between a language difference or disorder, if a child is bilingual or multilingual.

    * Evaluations can range from 60-90 minutes depending on the child's individual concerns.

  • Therapy Treatment

Development of skills, related to any breakdown in the process of communication including speech, language, and non-verbal reciprocal communication. Treatment may target expressive and/or receptive language, pragmatics (i.e. social communication), selective mutism, and/or speech-sound production (articulation or phonological disorder), fluency (i.e. stuttering),

    * Therapy sessions can be 1-2 times weekly, for 15, 30, 45 or 60 minute sessions recommendations will be provided to the family after the initial evaluation or therapy session.

** Therapy ranges from a three to six or nine month commitment or longer if necessary and is determined based on the individual's needs and progress.

What is the difference between a speech-language screening and an evaluation?

A screening is quick, easy to implement, and the goal is to identify individuals who may have speech and language difficulties. An evaluation is an in-depth (45 to 90- minute) assessment for individuals who were previously identified with speech and/or language difficulties.
